Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu boasts an enduring tradition of 45 years of academic research and learning in the field of philology. Under the aegis of the University, the academic staff of the Faculty of Letters and Arts have been conducting extensive research in various areas of study, from Literary and Cultural Studies to Social and Political Sciences, from Linguistic Theory and Translation Studies to Multimedia and Digital Arts, from Cultural Anthropology to Theatre Studies and Cultural Management. Three research centres – of Anglo-American and German Studies, of Philological and Intercultural Studies, and the Centre of Advanced Research in the Field of Performing Arts – provide the institutional framework for intensive, innovative individual as well as collaborative research work, the results and findings of which are published in annual or biannual peer-reviewed scholarly journals, such as: American, British and Canadian Studies, East-West Cultural Passage, Germanistische Beiträge, The Performing Arts Journal, The Romanian Journal of Cultural Management. The Faculty of Letters and Arts organizes annual national as well as international conferences that, over the years, have brought together researchers, teachers, writers, critics and specialists working in a variety of areas within the humanities, and have been devoted to a wide range of topics. Most prestigious among the academic events hosted by the Faculty of Letters and Arts are the East-West Cultural Passage International Conference, Tagung der Germanisten, Les Journées de la Francophonie, and the “Emil Cioran” International Symposium. One major concern of the academic staff involved in research projects and the organization of scientific events has always been the students’ valuable contribution to the enhancement of knowledge through education and research. Therefore, for more than a decade, we have been organizing annual student events, such as the “Lucian Blaga” National Student Symposium, the “Cultures in Transit” Student Symposium, UniverCity, etc. This year, for the first time, in celebration of Lucian Blaga University’s 45th anniversary, we are going international!
